This recipe relies on the two compartments in your dishwasher: one for soap, and one for rinse aid. The two ingredients neutralize one another, so they must be kept separate and released at different points in the dishwasher cycle.

Soap: fill the soap dispenser in your dishwasher with a couple scoops of washing soda.
Rinse aid: prepare a container of half water and half citric acid. The citric acid will dissolve into a clear liquid. Fill the rinse aid dispense in your dishwasher full of the citric acid solution.
Set dishwasher to your normal washing cycle.
