This toothpaste will not be sweet, or sudsy. If anything, I’d say it tastes a little salty. You scoop a little bit onto your toothbrush just like store bought toothpaste. I keep my own personal tub of it and simply rub my toothbrush in it, wet, and brush. If you can stick with this and get used to it (it is an acquired taste and texture) I think this may be the most revolutionary product I’ve made. Now that I don’t kill off my mouth’s natural bacteria with antimicrobial toothpaste, my mouth’s ecosystem has come into its own natural balance. I no longer wake up with that icky feeling in my mouth. It’s amazing what our bodies can do if we stop trying to “fix” them.
1/2 cup coconut oil
2-3 Tablespoons baking soda
1 Tablespoon Xylitol
10 drops peppermint essential oil
Melt all ingredients together in a double boiler. I just use a stainless steel or ceramic bowl balanced over a saucepan of boiling water. While stirring to prevent separating, pour into storage containers. Chill in refrigerator or freezer.
NOTE: ingredients will separate as the mixture cools. I like to cool rapidly in the freezer, and remove and shake every 5 minutes or so as it cools to prevent separation.
